OK so LAST year our house insurance was $2,200 (for the year)

Remember Florida had Hurricane Frances and Jeanne in 2004 … And then Hurricane Wilma in 2005

We never even made a claim, THANKFULLY we were OK – Fast Forward to this year

Our new house insurance premium arrives (due March 2007) – a whopping $4,300 – almost DOUBLE

YIKES!! So I call the (BIG name) company that insures us, that shall remain nameless to protect us all to say, “WTH is this?”

Anyway we start discussing stuff that COULD lower the premium ….

“Do you have a HIP roof?” she says

“Well I think it’s Hip, it’s green, and the house is yellow with green trim, yeah it looks hip” Yeah now I’m officially a bozo in the agents eyes…

“not THAT kind of “hip” – Does it slant up on all 4 sides like a pyramid or only 2 sides?”

“not sure”  says me, “but thanks to modern technology I can run out there while still on the phone with you and have a look see” Out I go – sure enough it’s a 4 sided slanter! – YIPPEE we DO have a HIP roof – it’s pyramid style

“Is that a GOOD thing or a BAD thing to actually have what you call a HIP roof??” “GOOD” she said – “PHEW!” I say to myself.

“BUT” she adds ” we will need to set an appointment to come out there and take photos of it and…..”

“Wait, can’t I just take photos of it myself and email them to you?” I butt in quickly “Well yes I suppose you could, do you have a digital camera?”

After I picked myself off the floor from laughing (quietly though so as not to piss her off even more and offer further proof that I am a bozo”)

“Why yes, I think at last count we have *8* digital cameras in this house, varying from low-end to kick butt XTi caliber” So HAVING a HIP roof (along with upping the NON-Hurricane deductible from $500 per claim to $1800 per claim [note: the Hurricane deductible is $9,000 per claim!] will reduce our premium to $2,666

I am now trying to figure our SOMETHING more to deduct so that we don’t have a satanic payment there!!

All that said, within 10 minutes I had taken photos of the roof (from a ladder held steady by my trusty and hot hubby!) from all 4 corners, and emailed them off to her as proof.

This is one of the photos – see that lovely blue gorgeous sky there – ok so there has to be some compensation for living in Hurricane territory!!

Yes we have DirectTV and yes the storm panels ARE still on one window – that is my bedroom window. Those panels remain on the window because otherwise our neighbour camps out on his back porch in hopes of glimpsing me coming from the bathroom to the bedroom a la nue !

A Day With My Love

I love this photo of Nils, he looks serious, but it’s really a “I’m on my boat, wow I finally HAVE a boat, I’ve wanted a boat for 30+ yrs, now I have my own boat, I’m on the ocean with my family, it’s a gorgeous day, it can’t get better than this, I love my life” off in another world look 🙂

NO KIDS today – all 4 of them are occupied, either working (Matt 17) with their friends/at my Mother-In-Laws (the 3 girls)

So hubby and I have a day together, just us. We are going up to Port St Lucie with another couple from here to see another couple up there to ‘hang out’ – the 3 hubby’s have all known each other since Elementary school in Miami back in the 60’s (the dark ages!!) – it’s gonna be a great day.

Oh Dear, such a short life :(

So Buttercup is no more 😦

Melanie took her to school (I tried to warn her not to, she said she’d keep her in her locker and wouldn’t get caught) – yeah well she did (get caught) …. So know I’d be FURIOUS, she called Grandma to come pick it up and keep it at her house for the day.

My MIL did pick up Buttercup on her way to her Dr’s Apt.

Shortly after she returned from her Apt to her house she died 😦

So Sad, my MIL told Melanie she will buy her another one (to be called Fergalicious) which will NOT be going to school!

OK, so I KNOW this is out of focus and totally a snapshot photo, unworthy of any awards or oohs and ahhs, but my POTD (Picture of the Day) is about “Life with the Bertelson Bunch” and the totally joy and excitement on Melanie’s face is all it took for me to choose this photo for today. So no “this is a bad photo” or comments on the technicality of it – Please.

Pure Joy for the Little Things in Life.

Melanie (15) came home yesterday (our kids had no school) and said “I bought a mouse!” she was SO excited!

Her name is Buttercup (her 2 friends Katelyn & Nichole were with her and also bought mice called Blossom and Bubbles – yes the Powerpuff Girls!)

She really is cute, washing her face, holding the cheese in her little front feet and nibbling on it!

Twiz & Twizzler will no doubt just want to eat her once they see her!! That’s Terriers for you, told Melanie to keep Buttercup in HER room at ALL times with the door SHUT! I will not be held responsible for my 2 earth/rodent loving terriers ‘doing their inbred job’

Now of course Kenzie (9) wants a mouse too – told her she had to keep her room TIDY (without reminders) for a LEAST 2 weeks and little Buttercup had to remain alive, then I might consider it!!

We’re BAAAAAAAAAAACK – and Happy New Year.

Happy Belated New Year, we’ve been back from North Carolina since Monday evening, but since 4 of the 6 of us got sick up there (cough/cold/stuffed up etc) and have been sick as dogs all week! Not to mention being in post vacation/holiday catch up!

I am working on the photos to put on the web site and even have some lovely Norwich Terrier videos to upload (staring 4 dogs!) for now you can look at the 4 pictures I have already uploaded to my flickr POTD (Picture Of The Day) stream.

Just click on each of the photos below and it will take you to a bigger one 🙂
